Lots of visitors

Today is turning out to be a day of visitors, large and small. Reception class from Grasmere School came to see the cows and hens and to plant seeds at Growing Well as part of the Food for Life curriculum. Richard showed round visitors from Pimhill Organic Farm in Shropshire. They grow and mill cereals to make flour,  porridge and muesli. There's something very satisfying in farm shopping; it's not unlikely that the cereal you're buying has been promoted by the farmers that grew and milled the raw material. This afternoon's guided tour has been for an Australian farming couple and a group of farmers interested in the way Richard crosses Swedish Red, Montbelliard and other cattle breeds in his herd.

Notice Board

  • Veg Season

Growing Well's Crop Share scheme is up and running for the season. Tell too many people about it and perhaps there won't be enough organic broad beans, spinach, courgettes, salad leaves, herbs and new potatoes to go round. Best keep it quiet then.
