Farming Fit for the Future

Change has come to the farm once again as we announce today that we are adapting to conditions in the wider market and from November will no longer be producing our milk organically. The decision was carefully considered by us all and based on a combination of factors including difficult growing conditions, the economy, 2 price reductions for our organic milk, and investment made in the last few years. We will of course still have our cows, hens, sheep and pigs, and everyone will still be able to see them here at the farm as they have for the past 19 years.

    So sorry to hear this news on TV this morning, thought I would check it out on your website. It must have been a hard decision, I'm feeling guilty for not shopping with you more!

    Short of customers' I have searched from Southpoert to Chester and in Milton Keynes bfor organic Lancashire cheese. but have been totally unable to finding any.
    Is the problem the marketing?

    We're very grateful for all the interest and feedback there has been on this change on the farm. As for the marketing - there's always more that can be done! Chris Sandham, who makes organic Lancashire from our cows' milk, has been selling regionally and nationally for several years. Booths and Waitrose bought it, as well as independents supplied via wholesalers. 'Listing' is up to the individual stores, so if you have a yearning for a particular product I'd strongly recommend asking and asking again - retailers really do listen to customers.

    Growing Well's Crop Share scheme is up and running for the season. Tell too many people about it and perhaps there won't be enough organic broad beans, spinach, courgettes, salad leaves, herbs and new potatoes to go round. Best keep it quiet then.
