Low Sizergh Barn

Farm Shop

The late 17th century Westmorland stone barn, home to our award winning farm shop, is filled to bursting with the best in fresh, organic and artisan produce hand picked by us from our local area. It offers three floors of speciality foods, crafts and gifts.

Local Food at Low Sizergh Barn

Food tastes better when it is grown and produced with passion and that’s exactly what you will find in our farm shop. Cool creamy milk, fresh morning bread, delicious meat from locally reared animals, vegetables fresh from the ground and free range eggs with rich yellow yokes. Remember those? You’ll find it all at Low Sizergh Barn Farm Shop.

Our meat, poultry and game comes from the nearby farms and estates, and our huge variety of seasonal organic vegetables are delivered to the shop by wheelbarrow, courtesy of our social enterprise and charity, Growing Well – we can count the farm yards rather than the food miles!

As past winners of the National Cheese Retail Awards we’re justifiably proud of the 60 or so cheeses available at our farm shop counter, particularly our own Kendal Creamy, Kendal Crumbly and Kendal Crumbly with Red Onion made from the farm’s milk. They’re the perfect accompaniment to one of the many jams and chutneys made from Cumbrian hedgerow fruits.

All the local foods in the farm store come at a price that is comparable if not cheaper than like- for-like produce in the supermarkets. And our staff participate fully in regular tasting days to ensure we can offer you the best advice and product knowledge – it’s hard work but someone has to do it!

Notice Board

  • No Joke

Newly hopping and popping on the shelves is Susanna Donovan's pepper sauce, made in Carlisle using her Trinidadian family recipe. The 'No Joke' label really means what it says on the jar, and thankfully the sauce comes in three strengths - mild, medium and hot. This is an authentic Caribbean pepper sauce made in Cumbria.
