The Wake Up to Organic event champions the idea of switching to organic ingredients for your breakfasts and aims to show how easy it is to make the change. Here’s a recipe that combines organic turmeric root and Watermill oats from the farm shop shelves with our own raw milk from the Low Sizergh herd. It’s our variation on a recipe first featured on MindBodyBowl.
40g Watermill organic oats
A small piece organic turmeric root, or, 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
150ml of Low Sizergh Barn raw milk
Toppings of your choice (picture shows seeds and raisins but fresh fruit or local honey are also a tasty option)
1. Place the Watermill oats in a small saucepan and cover with boiling water.
2. Leave to sit for about 5 minutes until the water is absorbed and the oats look plump.
3. If you are using fresh turmeric, peel and finely grate it. Then add this, or your turmeric powder, to the pan with the raw milk and a generous amount of black pepper. Place on a medium heat and stir well as you heat the porridge through slowly – cook until you have your desired consistency.
4. Remove the pan from the heat and serve with your choice of toppings.
