- Protected by PDO status, which means it can only be produced in the 3 adjacent counties of
- Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire
- Stilton was first recognised as a cheese at the beginning of the 18th century
- It is named after the village of Stilton which is just south of Peterborough
