FAQs

Q. Are you open every day?

A. Yes. We are open every day except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Our opening hours are:

Farm Shop: 9.00am – 5.30pm

Café: 9.00am – 5.00pm (last hot food 4.30pm)

Breakfast 9.00am to 11.30am; Lunches from 11.30am to 4.30pm, cake and drinks from 4.30pm to 5pm

Q. What time do you milk the cows?

A. The cows are milked twice per day, every day of the year. Visitors to Low Sizergh Barn can watch from the tearoom gallery or on the big screen between 3.30pm and 5.00pm. You can also get up close and personal with the cows just outside of the Farm Shop at that time.

Q. I really like the salad leaves/milk/jam/cheese/crisps/chutney/ham I had in the tea room. Can I get it in the shop?

A. Yes – just ask in the café and they’ll tell you the names to look for in the farm shop.

Q. Can I book a table in the café?

A.Unfortunately not, but we’re spacious. If you’re concerned about getting a table it’s best to come for an early lunch rather than a late one. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating available.

Q. How big is the herd?

A. The herd at the farm is 170 strong and is made up of Holsteins, Swedish Reds and Montbeliard crosses.

Q. Which of your products come from the farm?

A. Raw milk from our cows is made into delicious milkshakes in the cafe. Windermere Ice Cream Company make all their flavours from our milk. Organic vegetables are grown on the farm by Growing Well; Low Sizergh Barn cakes and bakes in the farm shop, and quiches and salads in the deli counter. Of course, everything served in the café is handmade from scratch.

Q. Is the site wheelchair and pushchair friendly?

A. Where possible we have made the site accessible to families with pushchairs and small children and to visitors with less mobility. You can find further details on our parking and access page. There is a lift to the café, and a disabled loo (with baby change).

Q. When did the farm shop open?

A. 1991.

Q. Didn’t you used to have pick your own strawberries?

A. After many years of growing strawberries for pick-your-own, and farm shop sale, we leased the strawberry land to Growing Well. They grow their fabulous vegetables organically.

Q. Can I volunteer at Growing Well?

A. People recovering from mental health issues are very welcome to get involved in any and all aspects of Growing Well, from working in the office to planting seeds. Please phone 07903013648 or see www.growingwell.co.uk.

Q. Is there disabled parking?

A. Yes. Disabled parking bays are clearly signed in front of the farm shop. For easy access use the right hand push panel door to enter the farm shop.

A. Low Sizergh Farm is rented from the National Trust so they are our landlord, but they are not involved in the farm or the farm shop in any way.

A. Yes, there are takeaway options from the outdoor shed (seasonal) and inside the farm shop at the deli counter. Use your smartphone to scan the QR code on the outdoor tables to access the full cafe menu.

Q. Are dogs allowed?

A. Dogs are not allowed in the farm shop or cafe but are more than welcome on the farm trail and outside the building, obviously we need you to pick up after them and dispose of waste bags in a bin. Dogs must be kept on a lead whenever livestock are present.

Q. Can I take a pushchair on the farm trail?

A. There is a hard track on farm trail as far as the pond which is suitable for pushchairs. Beyond that the footpath gates make it unsuitable for pushchairs, unfortunately. It has been done with an all-terrain buggy, but you need 2 people to lift over the gates & stiles.

A. Yes, you need to turn right upon entering the wood.

Q. Where are the toilets?

A. The toilets are at the back of the farm shop opposite the tills.
