Parking & access
Low Sizergh Barn is the ideal destination for all ages and we have made lots of changes to improve accessibility. Car parking is free and we can accommodate approximately 60 cars at any one time.
Arrival and car parking facilities
We have a car park with spaces for approximately 60 cars There is no coach access or parking There are designated disabled car parking spaces located adjacent to the accessible door into the shop The surface of the car park and the area outside the shop is tarmac. Feel free, of course, to offset your car from the cobbled surface (laid in the 1700s) and stick to the tarmac (laid in 2009) for wheelchair manoeuvrability.
Through sympathetic building work many of the access limitations of the barn have been overcome. There is lift access to the 1st floor tearoom and a fully accessible w.c. on the ground floor opposite the tills.
The accessible door is automatic.
It opens outwards and has a button 1m from the ground.
There is a slight incline to the entrance.
There is a ramp to the other entrance with a handrail.
There are no steps into the barn.
Staircase steps within the barn have contrast coloured non-slip edging.
Ground Floor Approximately 75% of the ground floor is old floorboards which are uneven in places.
The rest of the ground floor is a screed floor covered with a non-slip surface.
The public toilets are located in a separate area within the ground floor of the shop and include an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities.
There is a platform lift located in a lobby on the ground floor that will take 2 adults to the tearoom on the first floor.
There is a low counter for wheelchair users by one of the tills.
Public areas first floor
A lift provides access to the first floor.
There is an old wooden staircase with handrails at both sides, which gives access to the first floor.
The floor in the Craft Gallery is old wooden boards, which are uneven in places.
There are sisal mats on the main walkways.
There is a door through into the tearoom.
The tearoom floor is covered with a non-slip rubber surface.
There are steps (3 down and 3 up) leading to the milk parlour viewing area.
An alternative view is provided in the level area by the large flat screen TV that shows live pictures from the parlour at milking time.
Highchairs are available for young children.
