Growing Well

Organic growing

Growing Well grows fruit and vegetables on six organic acres at Low Sizergh Farm. Since 2004 this horticulture enterprise for mental health has helped hundreds of people recover from mental health challenges. Growing Well supports recovery through activity in the outdoors within a real-world horticulture enterprise, guided by experienced therapeutic growers and mental health support staff.

Growing Well’s volunteer beneficiaries attend one day a week for up to a year, setting goals, rebuilding confidence and learning new skills in a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment. Being able to talk and work side by side with people experiencing similar difficulties is key.

Produce

Growing Well’s deliciously fresh and flavourful mixed salad leaves are a much loved green addition to customer meals in Low Sizergh Barn’s cafe, and the farm shop grabs any available veg for its shelves.  Growing Well runs a crop share veg box scheme at the farm, with over 100 local people enjoying year-round fresh, seasonal, organic vegetables and fruit.

There is a real purpose to the work beneficiaries undertake. The food they grow and nurture is appreciated and valued by local families. As a real-world business there are day-day challenges to overcome but these are addressed within a structured and supportive environment.

Helping you grow well too

This all helps build confidence, connections and self-worth as volunteers work towards progression to employment, education or other life goal.  Many of Growing Well’s beneficiaries are referred by local GPs and mental health professionals but it’s really easy to refer yourself. You could be attending Growing Well and working on your mental health recovery within 2 weeks. Phone 07903 013648 for more information or look online www.growingwell.co.uk/join-us/
