Lambing, April
At about 2 days old the lambs are returned to the field with their mums.
The fellside fields are sheltered so lambs (and damson blossom) are protected from any biting wind.
Ewes and lambs are spray painted in case of any mismatching. A good sniff and a suckle usually secures the right match, but occasionally farmer intervention is needed if the ewe ‘misplaces’ her little four legged bundle of joy.
