Low Sizergh Barn Cows Going Out, March 2021

Yesterday was one of the earliest dates for spring turnouts (just beaten by 2014 when they were out for only 4 days before it snowed).

The recent spell of dry weather meant ground conditions are good and though the grass hasn’t really started growing yet there is plenty to satisfy the cows as they eat off what has been on the field all winter.

That will set the new growth off nicely and there should be enough variety – perennial ryegrass, clover, chicory – to vary root depth and improve the soil as well as please the cows’ palates.
